What is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI)?

CDFIs are U.S. Department of Treasury certified organizations that lend at affordable rates and terms in under-served markets. CDFIs provide access to credit and specialized loan products for people that may not qualify for a typical bank loan. CDFIs also finance affordable housing, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and commercial real estate to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods and cities. CDFIs are funded in part by the U.S. Department of Treasury Community Development Institution Fund.

Ohio’s CDFI Industry: Lending That Makes an Impact

For more than 30 years, CDFIs in Ohio have provided critical capital for neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing development, small business formation and expansion, and other community assets.

Ohio CDFI Network

The Ohio CDFI Network was started in 2018 and helps facilitate and expand relationships among CDFIs, connect CDFIs to potential deals, document the impact of CDFI lending in Ohio, and build awareness of CDFIs with potential partners. The Greater Ohio Policy Center proudly stewards and staffs the Network.
